Dallas Mavericks X-factor in playoffs: 5. Bench players stay hot
A late-season injury to Kristaps Porzingis and the ejection of Luka Doncic versus the Cavaliers allowed the Mavs role players to shine.
The home stretch of the regular season gave more confidence to the bench and has allowed them to get into a rhythm. Tim Hardaway Jr. is shooting the lights, and the recent play of Josh Green has proven he can be a key rotational piece in the playoffs. Josh Richardson and Tim Hardaway Jr. have been switching out in the starting lineup recently, so it will be interesting to see who starts in Game 1.
Maxi Kleber missed the final two games and six of the last eight with Achilles soreness. His return is massive. Kleber’s 3-point shooting mixed with defense will be extremely important in the playoffs. He led the team in 3-point percentage this season and started in the bubble playoffs to match up on Kawhi Leonard.
The bench and role players stepping up recently has been more than a pleasant surprise and should give everyone confidence the Dallas Mavericks can go deep in the playoffs. These players stepping up and taking some pressure off of the big two would be massive for this teams’ success in the postseason.
