2021 NBA Draft mock #7: Toronto Raptors: Scottie Barnes

Barnes is a 6’9 playmaker that creates off the dribble. The 19-year-old averaged 10.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.5 steals in 24.8 minutes per game during his lone season at Florida State. Barnes shot over 50 percent from the field and displayed an intriguing skillset.

Teams will fall in love with his defensive potential. He has a 7’2 wingspan and stout frame that should allow him to be an average defender quickly with the upside to be one of the top players in the league on that end of the floor.

Barnes has drawbacks, though. He shot just 27.5 percent on his 40 3-point attempts last season. The 6’9 wing offers plenty of versatility, but his jumper needs a ton of work. Barnes may never be an above-league average 3-point shooter in the NBA. With all the pace and space, that could have some teams second-guessing his candidacy.

The Toronto Raptors missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years. They need young pieces as they start to retool their roster. Scottie Barnes gives them a plus defender and 6’9 playmaker to help both now and going forward.
