2021 NBA Draft mock #28: Philadelphia 76ers: Jared Butler
Butler was the leading scorer on the Baylor Bears’ 2021 NCAA Championship squad. He averaged 16.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.0 steals in 30.3 minutes per game. The 6’3 guard shot 47.1 percent from the field and 78.0 percent on his free throws. He capped it off with 22 points and seven assists in the NCAA Championship game back in early April.
Butler can handle the ball and make plays. He profiles as a backup guard to begin his rookie campaign, but the potential exists that his role could expand. The 20-year-old must continue to improve his shooting, playmaking, and passing abilities.
There are defensive questions here. Brown is 6’3 and 195 pounds. He needs to increase his strength and figure out ways to hold his ground against larger opposition.
The Philadelphia 76ers are looking for players that can create for themselves and others. Butler is a willing passer. Philadelphia will use him as a catch-and-shoot threat early in his career because they need floor spacers around Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Butler fits that bill, but he must improve in the other areas if he wants to make a significant impact in the NBA.
