2021 NBA Draft mock #27: Denver Nuggets: Chris Duarte
Duarte took a massive leap in his second season at Oregon. The 23-year-old averaged 17.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 34.1 minutes per game. He shot 53.2 percent from the field and 81.0 percent on his free throws.
Duarte is an elite shooter. He nailed 42.4 percent of his 144 3-pointers this season. The 23-year-old can do it off the catch or on pull ups. In a draft that is light on shooters, Duarte could skyrocket up draft boards because of his potentially elite marksmanship.
The 6’6 guard profiles an average to above defender too. He holds his position and competes hard on that end of the floor. Duarte may lack the elite quickness of other guards, but he should be able to hold his own in most matchups.
Some teams will knock him for his age. He turns 24 years old before draft night, but Duarte is ready to play a role immediately. The 6’6 guard should be a plus shooter that has flashed tertiary playmaking chops. It will be interesting to see how high Duarte climbs in the 2021 NBA Draft. Here the Denver Nuggets are ecstatic to get another shooter to add to their young nucleus.
