2021 NBA Draft mock #24: Houston Rockets (via Milwaukee Bucks): Ziaire Williams
The Rockets shoot strictly for upside with this selection. Williams played one season at Stanford. The 19-year-old averaged 10.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 steals in 27.9 minutes per game. He shot just 37.4 percent from the field and 29.4 percent on his threes
Williams offers plenty of potential, though. The 6’8 forward has plus athleticism. He flashed his ball-handling and playmaking chops. Teams will be excited about making him a tertiary playmaker that can space the floor and be an above-average defender.
Reaching that potential will take significant time. Williams is a raw prospect at this point. Expect him to be at least two seasons away from contributing to an NBA team.
He was listed at 185 pounds this year. The 19-year-old must add mass while working on his overall game. His NBA team will likely focus on his shooting first with the playmaking to come as a secondary piece.
The Houston Rockets take the chance they can help Ziaire Williams reach his immense potential. He could be a 6’8 wing playmaker at his peak. Houston will have plenty of opportunities to give him as they rebuild following eight consecutive playoff appearances.
