2021 NBA Draft mock #22: Houston Rockets (via Trail Blazers): Ayo Dosunmu
Dosunmu played three seasons at Illinois and made significant improvements each year. The 6’5 guard averaged 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.1 steals in 35.1 minutes per game as a junior. He shot 48.8 percent from the field, 39.0 percent on his threes, and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Dosunmu plays hard on both ends of the floor. He has plus size for a guard. Dosunmu could be the versatile and switchable defender that NBA teams crave. Do not expect him to be elite on that end of the floor, but being above average is not out of the question.
He has shown ball-handling, passing, shooting, scoring, and playmaking ability on the offensive end. Dosunmu made a massive leap with his jumper during his junior season at Illinois. The 21-year-old will have to prove it was not a fluke at the next level.
The Houston Rockets are at the start of their rebuild. Grabbing a 21-year-old guard that can handle the ball and make plays helps them get things rolling in the right direction. Ayo Dosunmu does not profile as a starting point guard, but he could be the Rockets back up for the next decade-plus.
