2021 NBA Draft mock #15: Charlotte Hornets: Kai Jones

The Hornets are searching for a big man to pair with Lonzo Ball and Gordon Hayward. Jones is a raw prospect that could grow into a lethal pick and roll partner for the 19-year-old point guard. He averaged 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 22.8 minutes per game during his second season at Texas. Jones can attack off the dribble a bit and will have teams excited about his potential.

The 6’11 big man dealt with foul trouble and must improve his basketball IQ. The 20-year-old did not play until he was 15. He is extremely raw but has all the tools.

NBA teams will get excited about his shooting potential. Jones hit 38.2 percent of his 34 3-point attempts this season. They will be dreaming about a stretch five that can space the floor both vertically and horizontally. Jones needs to continue working on his jumper to be a consistent threat in the NBA, but the tools are there.

Kai Jones could easily be a top ten pick. Some team is likely to fall in love with his upside and draft him in the lottery. Do not expect early contributions, though. Jones is a project that is multiple years away from making a significant NBA impact.
