Player at risk of getting squeezed from Dallas Mavericks playoff rotation: 5. Josh Green
At the start of May, it appeared the 20-year-old rookie had no chance of being part of the postseason rotation. He had played a total of 31 games all season and was averaging just over 10.5 minutes a night. The majority of his opportunities had come with the Mavs at less than full strength, and Green had failed to flash in his limited chances.
The injuries to Porzingis and Kleber opened the door for Green to get playing time down the stretch, and he is making the most of it. The rookie was the catalyst of the win over the Miami Heat on May 4. It was the second time that he won the Defensive Player of the Game belt this season. Green has played in four straight games, and he continues to make an impact with his energy and effort.
Will that be enough to earn him minutes in the postseason? Expect Josh Green to be thrown in as a change of pace option, but he will not be in the rotation every night. If the 20-year-old gets a chance to shine, expect him to grab it. His hustle has endeared him to fans and made Green a player to watch over the remainder of his rookie deal.
