Big man that could cause Dallas Mavericks issues in postseason: 1. Rudy Gobert
Gobert takes it out on the Mavericks. During the two-game set in Utah, he started with 29 points, 20 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks in 37 minutes of action in a Jazz victory. Gobert followed it two nights later with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks in a blowout victory that only forced him to play 25 minutes. The Mavericks won the most recent meeting, but the Defensive Player of the Year candidate had 14 points, 15 boards, and two swats.
The Jazz have the best record in the NBA this season with Gobert anchoring their defense. He is one of the league’s best rim protectors, rebounders, and shot blockers. Dallas has no answer in the paint for the 7’1 Frenchman.
If the Mavericks fail to move up and lose the opening game of the play-in tournament, they will face the winner of the nine versus ten game with their season on the line. A Dallas win makes them the eighth seed and secures them a first-round date against the Jazz. The Mavericks would have to pull out all the tricks to be able to slow down Gobert in that series. Utah’s center has dominated the glass versus Dallas and is likely to do so again in the postseason.
Dallas Mavericks fans are in for a wild and exciting stretch run. Hopefully, they can move up and avoid the play-in tournament. Either way, there will be difficult matchups to contend with in the postseason. Stay tuned to see how the Mavs fare.
