Pass or Pursue on Dallas Mavericks trade rumor: 1. Acquiring John Collins
The Mavericks appear to be making a play for Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor reported Dallas’ interest on Sunday before Chris Haynes noted the Mavs offered a trade package including Maxi Kleber which Atlanta rejected. Could Dallas make a stronger offer before Thursday’s deadline?
It is odd the Hawks are looking to move Collins. They spent in the offseason to make playoffs. Atlanta has won eight straight to move up to fourth in the Eastern Conference. John Collins will be a restricted free agent after the season, but why sell your starting power forward amid a playoff run?
Regardless, the Mavericks should be in on the 23-year-old. He fits the team’s timeline and gives them a big man capable of averaging 20 points and ten rebounds every night.
Dallas Mavericks should pursue a John Collins trade
Do not expect Dallas to win the bidding war, though. The Hawks are likely searching for a first-round pick plus talented role players that can help them win now, but the Mavericks cannot trade a top draft choice until 2025. Atlanta is not going to want to wait that long.
Expect to see plenty more Dallas Mavericks rumors before the March 25 trade deadline. Keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
