Pass or Pursue on Dallas Mavericks trade rumor: 3. Trading away Doe-Doe
Brad Townsend dropped a bit of a surprising rumor on Monday morning. He noted that teams around the league are showing interest in Mavericks forward Dorian Finney-Smith. Fans did not see this one coming, but Townsend notes that it does not mean Doe-Doe is being shopped by the Mavs.
Finney-Smith signed a three-year $12 million contract in the summer of 2019 and immediately outperformed it. He has transformed from undrafted free agent to starter playing over 31 minutes per game. Doe-Doe has become a reliable shooter and the 3-and-D wing that every team covets. He is under contract for just $4 million this season with one year left on his deal at the same figure.
Dallas Mavericks should pass on trading away Dorian Finney-Smith unless they can get a star
Finney-Smith is on one of the most team-friendly contracts in the league. The Mavericks should keep the 6’7 forward unless they can acquire a third star at the deadline. Doe-Doe could slide into a backup role if the Mavs trade for an upgrade. He does not need the ball in his hands and can play with any lineup.
Dallas needs his defense and floor spacing. They should not be dangling him in any deals unless it means acquiring a franchise-altering talent.
