Pass or Pursue on Dallas Mavericks trade rumor: 5. Acquiring Norman Powell
Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer dropped two juicy Mavericks rumors on Monday morning. The first was Dallas being one of five teams showing interest in Norman Powell. Fischer noted the Raptors wing is likely to be moved ahead of the deadline, but should the Mavs be interested?
The 27-year-old has taken another step forward this season. He is averaging 19.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 30.4 minutes per game. Powell has shot 49.6 percent from the field and 44.4 percent on his 3-point attempts this season. He is a versatile defender that can space the floor. The 6’3 wing would check a lot of boxes for the Mavericks.
Dallas Mavericks should pursue a Norman Powell trade
Powell has an $11.6 million player option for next season that he is expected to decline, so the Mavs have to be careful not to give up too much. The veteran won a ring with the Raptors in 2019. He would be the only player on the Mavericks roster with championship experience.
Powell improves Dallas on both ends of the floor. He is a top 50 scorer in the league this season and is no stranger to guarding elite shot-makers. The Mavs should be looking to acquire Norman Powell before Thursday’s trade deadline.
