Trade target that makes Dallas Mavericks title contenders: 3. Buddy Hield

The Mavs had a historic offensive rating last season but were middle of the pack in defense. They traded Seth Curry, one of the best shooters in the NBA, for Josh Richardson and a second-round pick with the goal of improving their defense at the sacrifice of some floor spacing. Dallas has missed Curry’s elite shot-making as their offense has fallen to 12th.

The Kings are currently 13th in the Western Conference and could be looking to offload salary at the trade deadline. Former Maverick Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield are the two most likely to be moved.

Hield is under contract until 2024 with over $60 million left on his deal. The 28-year-old is an elite shooter that continues to develop his playmaking ability. Hield has connected on over 40 percent of his threes in his five-year NBA career.

The 6’4 struggles on the defensive end and is underperforming this season, but a change of scenery could unlock his potential. Hield averaged over 20 points per game on 45.8 percent shooting from the field and 42.7 percent on his threes in 2018-2019. Adding that would be a massive boost to the Dallas Mavericks offense.
