Former All-Star Dallas Mavericks could trade for cheap: 5. Andre Drummond
The Cavaliers have decided to sit Drummond as they explore their options. They traded for Jarrett Allen to be their center of the present and future and did not want the former All-Star to be forced into a diminished role. Drummond has not played in a game since Feb. 12.
The rebuilding Cavaliers would be happy to get any positive asset for the 27-year-old. Cleveland traded a second-round pick to acquire Drummond at the deadline in 2020. Getting a selection back may be enough to put the two-time All-Star in another uniform.
It will be difficult for the Cavaliers to find a trade partner because Drummond is in the final year of his contract making $28.7 million. Any contending team would have to match that number. The Mavs could do it with James Johnson and Dwight Powell, but they would still need to add a draft pick or young talent to satisfy Cleveland in the deal.
Do not expect the Dallas Mavericks to trade for Andre Drummond because he does not fit next to Kristaps Porzingis and can be played off the floor in the playoffs. The Mavs need to improve their rebounding and defense, but Drummond is not the answer.
