Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis has a lengthy injury history
KP has missed the team’s last three games with a back injury. He played in 17 of the team’s 31 games so far this season. It has been the story of Porzingis’ career. Including the playoffs, the Unicorn has appeared in 263 of a possible 440 games during his six seasons in the NBA. The numbers are skewed because he missed an entire season recovering from a torn ACL, but KP has only been available for 74 of 112 possible contests since the start of the 2019-2020 season.
The injuries are beginning to pile up for the 25-year-old big man. He has undergone two significant knee surgeries in the last three years. Porzingis missed time with back, ankle, and heel issues since 2017 as well.
It leaves fans to wonder if they will ever see KP 100 percent healthy. The Mavericks could be dreading another ill-timed injury like the Unicorn suffered in the 2020 playoffs. They love the fit between Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, but Dallas needs KP on the court to make the dream pairing a reality.
The Mavs thought they could keep Porzingis healthy. It is why they traded for him and quickly inked him to a max contract. So far, the Mavericks have struggled in that department.
