Dallas Mavericks roster breakdown: Maxi Kleber
Kleber signed a four-year $35.9 million contract extension in 2019. At the time, it seemed like a bit of a gamble considering Kleber had only played in the NBA for two years and his traditional stats were never eye-popping.
Not much has changed in the stat sheet, but Kleber has justified his salary by impacting the game in ways not seen in the box score. He has earned his spot on the team as the go-to 3-and-D option for the Mavs. The 29-year-old has a rare ability to be able to protect the rim and defend on the perimeter.
In January, Kleber had the best defensive rating on the team, with an outstanding 105. When asked to cover the opposing team’s best player, the 6’10 big man is always up for the task and has a tendency to come up massive.
What has been even more impressive and surprising is the strides Kleber has made as a shooter. His 3-point percentage has climbed every year. This season, Kleber is shooting an otherworldly 45.3 percent, which leads the Mavericks.
Whether it’s effort, defensive prowess, or an ever-improving outside game, Kleber has shown exactly why the Dallas Mavericks felt so comfortable investing in him.
