Dallas Mavericks trade target to improve their bench: 2. George Hill
The Mavs entered the offseason looking to improve their perimeter defense and find a secondary creator that could play off Luka Doncic. Josh Richardson and Trey Burke were added to handle the ball-handling duties. Neither player has blossomed in that facet, though.
Trading for George Hill would give the Mavericks an elite shooter that is no stranger to starting at point guard in the NBA. He is a career 38.4 percent marksman from downtown and knows how to keep the offense flowing.
The Thunder would love to get some draft picks for Hill. He is under contract for next season at just over $10 million. That could easily be moved if the Mavericks find a third star to occupy their cap space. Hill played next to Giannis Antetokounmpo for two seasons and was part of the Cavaliers NBA Finals run in 2018. The 6’4 guard would bring leadership and playoff experience to the Mavs.
Expect multiple contending teams to have interest in George Hill before the trade deadline. Can the Mavericks be the ones to land the veteran? Do not count it out, especially if Dallas sees him as the final piece necessary to make a deep playoff run.
