Dallas Mavericks trade target to improve their bench: 3. Garrett Temple
Temple is an underrated veteran. Over the last five seasons, he has averaged 8.6 points, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 steal in 26.6 minutes per game while shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range. The 6’5 wing is a plus defender that just had his best game of the season against the Mavericks on Jan. 17.
Every team in the NBA could use another strong 3-and-D wing coming off their bench. He may not blow fans away with his stats, but Temple also provides leadership, veteran presence, and 30 games of playoff experience. He makes plays and knows how to win games.
The Mavericks could use Temple as an upgrade over Josh Green and Wesley Iwundu in the postseason. Both current players are strong defenders but lack the floor spacing element Dallas needs. Temple would knock down open shots and keep the ball moving. Having another veteran to turn to in a pinch can be massive in the playoffs.
Garrett Temple would also provide insurance for an injury. The Dallas Mavericks have struggled mightily without Josh Richardson and Dorian Finney-Smith for the last two weeks. Having Temple to play significant minutes would be a gigantic boost.
