Dallas Mavericks trade target to improve their bench: 5. Trevor Ariza

Fans thought the Mavs acquired Ariza for a second this offseason. He was part of the trade that brought James Johnson to Dallas. Technically, the veteran forward was dealt three times in the same week back in November. He went from Portland to Houston to Detroit to Oklahoma City. Ariza has not played a game this season, but the Thunder are reportedly shopping him as they continue to rebuild around Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The 35-year-old is a 3-and-D wing with championship experience. He can guard one through four and has shot 35.6 percent from 3-point range over the last five seasons combined. Ariza creates a ton of turnovers and is capable of filling any role a team needs. Dallas wants to jump into title contention, but they are light on experience. No player on their roster has a ring. Ariza’s championship know-how could be massive in the playoffs.

Trading for the 6’8 forward should be relatively easy. He is making $12.8 million in the final year of his contract. The Mavs would have to match salaries, but the Thunder would likely accept a second-round pick or two to clear Ariza from their books. Oklahoma City is open for business, and Ariza is not the last player from their team to appear on this list.
