The Dallas Mavericks wrapped up a three-game road trip on Friday night in San Antonio against the Spurs. They lost the opener before topping the Pacers on Wednesday night. The Mavs are without four key rotation players, who remain in the league’s health and safety protocols, but it has not stopped superstar Luka Doncic and company.

Friday was the first of a back-to-back set for the Mavericks. They return home to face the rival Rockets on Jan. 23. First place in the Southwest Division was also up for grabs as the Spurs held a half-game lead on the Mavs entering Friday’s contest.

Luka had a monster night to lift Dallas to their second straight victory. Defeating the Spurs is always a good night, but what can Mavs fans learn from the Jan. 22 game?

5 takeaways from the Dallas Mavericks road win over the Spurs

The Mavs were outstanding on Friday night. Trey Burke had 13 points on five of ten from the field in 21 minutes of action. Tim Hardaway Jr. dropped 21 points on eight of 12 shooting in 38 minutes. Both guards played outstanding but did not make the top five takeaways.

Wesley Iwundu won the Defensive Player of the Game belt on Jan. 22. He scored just two points but made some key plays on that end of the floor. The Mavs outscored San Antonio by three in his 24 minutes of action.
