Dallas Mavericks: Could they sign Fred VanVleet? Will the Mavs?

The Dallas Mavericks are heading into an important offseason. They have been here before with a team hungry to take the next step after qualifying for the playoffs. This time is a bit different, though. Mavs superstar Luka Doncic is only 21 years old. They have the potential to build a consistent title contender if they can find the right pieces around him.

First, the Mavericks need to get Kristaps Porzingis healthy and keep him producing like he was in the 2020 portion of the schedule. The Unicorn averaged 24.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.9 blocks on 45.2 percent shooting from the field and 36.1 percent on his threes since the calendar flipped. That will have him back in the All-Star game and Dallas in the top-four in the Western Conference.

The Mavs have a host of quality role players but are still a few pieces short. Expect the front office to explore every avenue to find them this offseason. One interesting free agent is Fred VanVleet. Bleacher Report notes the Mavericks as a dark-horse to signing the 26-year-old guard. Let us take a closer look at that potential move.
