Dallas Mavericks target for mid-level exception: 1. Goran Dragic

Fans will dismiss this one because the Mavericks had a chance to trade for Dragic in 2019 and decided against it. Things have changed, though. The Dragon was coming off a significant knee injury and did not look right in the 2018-2019 season. He has silenced those doubters with his incredible play this season.

The 34-year-old averaged 16.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 28.3 minutes per game this regular season. He is an outstanding shooter, floor spacer, ball-handler, and playmaker. Dragic has taken it to another level in the playoffs including regaining his starting role. The Miami Heat would not be in the Eastern Conference Finals without him.

There is also the connection with Luka Doncic. They led the Slovenian National Team to the championship at EuroBasket 2017. Doncic and Dragic were spotted hanging out inside the Orlando bubble. The two play fantastically off each other. Dragic would take some pressure off Doncic and help the Mavericks with their clutch time woes.

There will be some caution about signing the 34-year-old point guard. That is understandable, especially since Dragic played just 36 games in 2019. Grabbing him on a one-year deal would significantly improve the Mavericks, though. Goran Dragic might accept that to play with his friend Luka Doncic.
