Dallas Mavericks: 5 free agents to replace Trey Burke if he leaves

Free agent to replace Trey Burke for Dallas Mavericks: 2. D.J Augustin
Augustin is coming off a down season where Markelle Fultz took over as the Magic’s starting point guard. The 32-year-old veteran still averaged 10.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists in 24.9 minutes per game. Augustin is a plus ball-handler with the quickness to get the rim. He could provide something similar to what Burke gave the Mavs inside the Walt Disney World bubble.
Augustin’s numbers could be even better in Dallas. Over the last five season combined, he has connected on 42.6 percent of his catch and shoot 3-point attempts. Now, imagine him lining up next to Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Augustin would jump his 3-point percentage back over 40 and give Dallas another efficient scorer.
The 32-year-old has been a steady point guard for 12 seasons in the NBA. He could thrive coming to Dallas and playing a bench role for the Mavericks. Augustin may be limited on some nights, but he would get plenty of opportunities to shine throughout an 82-game regular season.
Augustin has improved his production in the playoffs in his last three trips too. That could be key for the Mavericks as they have hopes of jumping into title contention next season. Signing D.J. Augustin would give them another plus ball-handler and playmaker to turn to in a pinch.
