Free agent to replace Willie Cauley-Stein for Dallas Mavericks: 3. Jeff Green

Green is another well-traveled veteran the Mavs could target. He has played for nine different teams in his 12 NBA seasons. The 34-year-old had a key role for the small ball Houston Rockets in the restart. He averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game during their playoff run.

Green has a lot of postseason experience that could help the young Mavericks including playing in the NBA Finals with the Cavaliers in 2018. Green’s 72 career playoff games would have led the 2019-2020 Mavs. He stepped up this year on the Rockets too. Dallas is searching for players that perform their best when the games matter most.

The 6’8 forward can shoot, score, and play solid defense. He would give the Mavericks a steady option off the bench that thrives in a 20 to 25 minutes per game role. Green is a slightly below league average 3-point shooter, but his ability to finish at the rim makes up for it.

Expect the Dallas Mavericks to have plenty of interest in Jeff Green regardless of Willie Cauley-Stein’s decision. The skilled combo forward brings the team toughness, energy, and hustle. Those are all key traits Dallas is searching for this offseason.
