Trade that makes Dallas Mavericks title contenders: 6. Grab Buddy

File this one as unlikely. Hield is under contract until 2024 after a four-year $94 million extension. The Mavs are unlikely to give up their chance to chase a marquee free agent in 2021 to acquire him.

The Kings will be a team to watch this offseason, though. Bogdan Bogdanovic is an unrestricted free agent. Sacramento has been reluctant to play him and Hield on the floor together. That could mean they decide to move on from one of them this offseason.

Hield is one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA. He has improved his defense and playmaking too. The 27-year-old is capable of scoring 20 a night and making life difficult on the opposition. Hield can get hot. He had five 30-plus point games this season.

Sacramento could be looking to shake it up again. They have not been to the postseason since 2006. The Kings must improve their defense. Adding three picks helps them fill their roster around De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley III, and Bogdanovic. Dorian Finney-Smith gives them a capable defender and combo forward that does not command the ball.

The Mavericks grab their third scorer, and their top offense goes to nearly unstoppable with Buddy Hield in the lineup.
