Free agent that could replace Tim Hardaway Jr. for Dallas Mavericks: 1. Danilo Gallinari

Gallinari may be the best and most available free agent this offseason. The Thunder were not expected to make the playoffs. Most thought they would rebuild and trade away pieces like Gallinari, Chris Paul, and Steven Adams. CP3 taking a leadership role changed that. Oklahoma City could choose to rebuild this offseason after parting ways with coach Billy Donovan.

Gallinari averaged 18.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 29.6 minutes per game this season. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range for the second consecutive season. The 6’10 forward is a professional scorer that would bring versatility to the Mavs.

Gallinari has dealt with various injuries throughout his career. That makes him a bit less likely to take a one-year deal. Do the Mavericks see him as their third star? Would it be worth bypassing the shot at another All-Star? Those are difficult questions to answer. Expect the Mavs to chase the big fish in 2021 over signing Gallinari this offseason.

He would fit and make the team significantly better in 2021. The Dallas Mavericks want to win their second championship in franchise history, though. Danilo Gallinari does not move the needle enough to sacrifice a chance at a superteam.
