2020 NBA Draft mock #30: Boston Celtics (via Bucks)- Cassius Winston

The Celtics could use a backup point guard with the final pick of the first round. There are plenty of options available. Cassius Winston played four seasons at Michigan State. He was a two-time consensus All-American and 2019 Big Ten Player of the Year.

This season, Winston averaged 18.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.2 steals in 32.7 minutes per game. He shot 44.8 percent from the field, 43.2 percent on his 3-point tries, and 85.2 percent from the field.

Winston is NBA-ready. He should come in and fill the backup point guard role from opening night. The former Spartan is an outstanding pick and roll ball-handler. Expect him to create easy buckets all over the court in the NBA. He can play off the ball as a floor spacer too. Winston connected on 43.0 percent of his 602 career NCAA 3-point attempts.

The Celtics have the ability to cover up Winston’s biggest weakness. The 6’1 point guard could struggle a bit on the defensive end in the NBA. Boston has the luxury of playing him next to Marcus Smart, though. Smart is an outstanding defender that can hide Winston a bit. Drafting Cassius Winston gives the Celtics another exciting piece as they contend in 2021.
