2020 NBA Draft mock #28: Los Angeles Lakers- Isaiah Stewart

The Lakers will be contending again next season. It would not be surprising to see them trade this pick for a veteran that can help them win a championship in 2021. If they keep it, the Lakers should be in the market for a point guard or a center.

Isaiah Stewart had a strong lone season at Washington. He averaged 17.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 32.2 minutes per game. Stewart shot 57.0 percent from the field and 77.4 percent on his free throws.

There are plenty of questions here. Washington employs a zone defensive scheme that used Stewart solely a rim protector. Will his shot blocking translate to the NBA? How will he defend against pick and rolls? Can he switch onto the perimeter? It is hard to get a read on those questions. He is 6’9 with a 7’4 wingspan and athleticism. Teams are intrigued by that.

Stewart made five of his 20 3-point attempts this season. Expect him to try to continue to expand his range. The 19-year-old is packed with potential. He could become a force on the inside if he reaches his ceiling. The Lakers take a shot on that upside at pick 28 overall.
