Dallas Mavericks draft: 5 options for 18 overall pick

The Dallas Mavericks are in the thick of the playoffs. Their focus is upsetting the LA Clippers and advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals. It will be no easy task as the Clippers are one of the title favorites in the Walt Disney World bubble.

The novel coronavirus threw the NBA calendar out of whack. The draft is now set to take place on Oct. 16 just days after the finals wrap up. The draft lottery happened on Thursday. The Minnesota Timberwolves grabbed the number one overall selection. The order is set. Fans can see all 60 picks here.

The Mavericks will select at 18 and 31 overall. They cannot trade their first-round pick because of the Stepien Rule. The Mavs could move the selection on draft night, but the deal would not be finalized until after the moratorium is lifted.

5 options for the Dallas Mavericks to draft with the 18 overall pick

The Mavs are in a fantastic place moving forward. Luka Doncic puts up historic numbers on a nightly basis. The 21-year-old will attract free agents to Dallas because he is an unselfish superstar. Kristaps Porzingis is playing the best basketball of his career in the Orlando bubble. The Mavericks have a solid cast of role players around their two standouts.

They will be looking for two things if they decide to keep their draft pick. The Mavs need a plus defender that can shoot. It leaves them a plethora of options on draft night. Here is a look at the five players they should be targeting in the first round.
