How Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic matches up against Clippers

Luka’s first NBA playoff series comes against one of the best perimeter defensive teams. In the three meetings this season, the 21-year-old averaged 29.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game. His nine of 33 from 3-point range is a bit concerning. The Clippers dare him to shoot from long range. That has been a successful strategy thus far.

Expect them to shift to putting Kawhi Leonard on Luka more too. He has only matched up on Doncic for 5:59 in the first three meetings. The Clippers have mixed it up between Leonard, Paul George, and Patrick Beverley. The Claw will take the assignment when the game is on the line, though. Luka is three of six against him in a limited sample this season, according to NBA Stats.

On the defensive end, Doncic will matchup against Marcus Morris Sr. or Landry Shamet. The Mavs do not want him chasing around Paul George or Kawhi Leonard. If Beverley returns, Luka could check him too. Expect the 21-year-old superstar to hold his own in the post against Leonard when he gets switched on.

The Mavericks are going to need Luka Doncic to step up in the key moments to have any chance. Clippers coach Doc Rivers will gameplan to stop Luka. Beating that will not be easy, but that is what the great players do. Never count out Doncic. The series will be a joy to watch, so please do not miss it.
