Dallas Mavericks takeaway from win over Kings: 4. 3-point shooting woes continue

One of the keys to the Mavs loss to the Suns was their poor 3-point shooting. They hit just six of 31 on Sunday. The Mavericks are second in 3-pointers made and attempted per game this season. It is a massive part of their offense.

The struggles continued against the Kings. Dallas was just nine of 41 from 3-point range. That included the five starters going six of 29. KP missed all seven. Dorian Finney-Smith only made one of his seven. Luka Doncic was two of six, and Tim Hardaway Jr. connected on three of nine. There were plenty of open looks. They just did not fall for Dallas on Tuesday.

Conversely, the Kings were 16 of 43. It is the second straight game the opponent made at least six more 3-pointers than Dallas did. That is not a recipe for Mavericks’ success. They need to get their shooting figured out. Seth Curry being out on Tuesday did not help. Coach Carlisle expects him back against the Clippers.

The Mavericks need to attack the rim more when the threes are not falling. Let Luka Doncic and Trey Burke drive into the paint. Hopefully, that creates havoc for the defense. The Mavs shooting will certainly be something to monitor moving forward.
