Dallas Mavericks takeaway from win over Kings: 5. KP has a rough night

Kristaps Porzingis had been lighting it up during the season’s restart. He had 39 points and 16 rebounds against the Rockets. KP followed it up with 30 points, eight boards, and four blocks on Sunday. The hot streak came to end against the Kings.

Porzingis struggled to find his shot on Tuesday. He was just six of 18 from the field including missing all seven of his 3-point attempts. The Unicorn could not find his rhythm.

It did not stop KP from producing. He got to the free throw line 11 times. That helped him put up 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals before fouling out in the fourth quarter. He was limited to just 27 minutes.

The takeaway is not Porzingis struggling. It was one bad game. That makes three straight games that one the Mavericks top four scorers could not get it going. Curry missed everything against the Rockets, and Tim Hardaway Jr. shot one of 12 versus the Suns. It is one reason the Mavericks are this close to being winless in three games from Orlando.

Hopefully, all five get it going against the LA Clippers on Thursday.
