NBA Mock Draft #7: New York Knicks- Tyrese Haliburton

The Knicks fell one position as the Suns moved up in the lottery simulation. New York has recent picks R.J. Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, and Kevin Knox in the frontcourt. Their three point guards will all be free agents in 2021. The Knicks will be looking to sure up that position long-term this offseason.

Haliburton gives New York plenty of flexibility. The 20-year-old guard averaged 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 2.4 3-pointers made in 36.7 minutes per game this season. At 6’5, Haliburton has plus size and finishes well inside. He shot 50.4 percent from the field.

Haliburton hit 42.6 percent of his 237 3-point attempts at Iowa State. That has NBA teams believing he can play on or off the ball. He may not be ready to take over as the starting point guard from the opening night of his rookie year, but he should play as a secondary creator.

Haliburton has the upside to turn into a lockdown defender. His basketball IQ and wingspan should let him be strong on that end of the floor as a rookie.

The 20-year-old has a high floor and ceiling. Haliburton should be an NBA starter in his prime. A 3-and-D option that fits well in any lineup. There is an upside for more than that too.
