NBA Mock Draft #2: Phoenix Suns- LaMelo Ball

The Suns jumped up eight spots to the second overall pick in the simulation. It opens the door for Phoenix to grab their long-term backcourt partner for Devin Booker.

LaMelo Ball is the best passer and playmaker in this class. He is a 6’7 point guard that should instantly improve the Suns offense. It allows them to play Booker at his more natural position. Phoenix would also have a strong young core with Deandre Ayton patrolling the paint.

There are plenty of questions about the rest of Ball’s game. He shot 25.0 percent from 3-point range this season playing professionally in Australia. It was a small 12-game sample, though. Ball is not afraid to shoot even when it is not falling. He needs to improve his efficiency and accuracy from 3-point range.

The defense is also a question. He has plus size for a point guard but has struggled on that end of the floor. Any improvement here will go a long way in helping his team win games in the NBA.

The numbers may not be impressive, but Ball should play right away. He will produce assists. The shooting percentages could be ghastly, though. LaMelo has the upside to be the top player in the 2020 NBA Draft class if he improves on both ends of the floor. That potential makes him a guaranteed top-five selection in October.
