NBA Mock Draft #26: Boston Celtics- Daniel Oturu

This is the second of three first-round picks the Celtics currently hold in the 2020 NBA Draft. Boston added a guard in Tyrese Maxey earlier. They should be set with guards and wings. The Celtics will be looking for a big man at pick 26.

Oturu had a breakout second season at the University of Minnesota. He averaged 20.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks in 33.9 minutes per game. The 20-year-old shot 56.3 percent from the field and 70.7 percent on his free throws.

NBA teams will be excited about Oturu’s potential as a stretch five. He sank 36.5 percent of his 52 3-point attempts this season. The former Golden Gopher has scoring, rebounding, and rim protection abilities to go along with it.

Oturu should be ready for a reserve role right away. He is 6’10 and 240 pounds. His biggest worry will be foul trouble. Oturu should be able to rebound and protect the rim from the opening night of his rookie season.

There is plenty of upside for the 20-year-old to blossom into a nightly night starter too. Boston can use Oturu for limited minutes as he develops. He could quickly become another piece of their exciting young core.
