NBA Mock Draft #23: Miami Heat- Tre Jones

The Heat will be looking to add a point guard with this pick. Goran Dragic is set to hit free agency. They have Jimmy Butler and Kendrick Nunn as guards that can handle the ball, but adding a true point guard or two will be the top goal for this offseason.

Jones is coming off an outstanding second season at Duke. The 20-year-old averaged 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.8 steals in 35.4 minutes per game. He shot 42.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent on his 3-point tries.

The 6’3 guard improved his playmaking significantly this season. He averaged a full assist more per-36 minutes. Jones also made better reads and got all of his teammates involved.

The former Blue Devil was the ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2020. His quickness and a high basketball IQ stand out on the defensive end. Jones competes hard and should quickly become a plus on that end of the floor.

His shooting is the biggest question mark. Over 211 NCAA 3-point attempts, Jones connected on just 31.3 percent. He was a bad shooter as a freshman. The 20-year-old improved significantly, but can he translate it to the NBA?

The Heat select Jones and happily insert him as their backup point guard as a rookie.
