NBA Mock Draft #20: Brooklyn Nets (via 76ers)- Patrick Williams

Williams is a project, but there is a ton of potential to fall for in his game. He did not start a single game in his lone season at Florida State. The 18-year-old (turns 19 on Aug. 6) only played 22.5 minutes a night. That did not stop him from averaging 9.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 1.0 block per game.

NBA teams will be excited about his defensive potential. Williams is 6’8 with 6’11 wingspan. He can guard both on the perimeter and in the paint. Williams creates havoc with his length and athleticism. His ability to switch and force turnovers has scouts enamored.

He showed flashes on offense too. NBA teams will want him to improve his shooting. Williams connected on just 32.0 percent of his attempts from 3-point range this season. That coupled with improving his ability to finish inside would allow the 18-year-old to reach his potential.

The Nets expect to be contending next season with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving healthy. They take the project in Williams in hopes of developing him into a key piece of their team over the next three seasons. Getting another plus-defender could go a long way for the Nets.
