Free agency options for Dallas Mavericks to scout at NBA Disney: 5. Joe Harris

It is no secret that the Mavs want to put floor spacers around Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Their starting five in Orlando will be the two stars and three wing shooters. The plan has led the Mavericks to the top offensive rating in the NBA this season.

Joe Harris is one of the league’s best shooters. He connected on 41.2 percent of his threes this season. That is actually below his career rate of 42.3 percent. Digging in further, he hit 43.5 percent on catch and shoot threes. Harris would get plenty of those with Luka Doncic drawing away defenders in Dallas.

He made $8 million this season and will be an unrestricted free agent after NBA Disney.

The 28-year-old has a unique opportunity in Orlando too. The Nets will be without Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, and Wilson Chandler. Spencer Dinwiddie is also recovering from a positive test for the novel coronavirus. His status is up in the air as of this writing. Harris could be afforded the opportunity to expand his game a bit.

Fans have seen some playmaking and rebounding ability from him. Can he take it to another level in Orlando? How do additional shot attempts impact his percentages? Harris will certainly be a player to watch during the season’s restart in Orlando.
