Dallas Mavericks should sign Davis Bertans when he enters free agency this offseason
The Dallas Mavericks will be one of 22 teams taking part in the NBA’s restart. They hope to get back into form quickly. The Mavs are planning on a deep playoff run in Orlando.
The process starts this week. Players had to be back in their markets by Monday. Testing for the novel coronavirus begins on Tuesday. Players have until June 24 to opt-out of the restart.
Things will ramp up quickly from there. Training camp 2.0 begins in Orlando in early July. The seeding games start on July 30. Here is a look at the 5 Mavs with the most to prove at NBA Disney.
Davis Bertans opts out of NBA Disney: Dallas Mavericks interested in free agency?
News broke on June 22 that Washington Wizards forward Davis Bertans will not play in NBA Disney. He is doing so as a preventive measure as he heads into free agency in the offseason. The Wizards are currently ninth in the Eastern Conference and would have to make 1.5 games just to qualify for the play-in in Orlando.
Bertans had a breakout season in Washington. He averaged 15.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in 29.3 minutes per game. Bertans is a sharpshooter that will receive plenty of interest on the free agent market.
The Dallas Mavericks are facing an uncertain situation. Nobody knows what the cap figures will be after the pandemic impacted the league’s revenues. Tim Hardaway Jr. has an $18.975 million player option for next season. If he opts in, Dallas will not be able to spend significantly on free agents. If he opts out and signs a long-term deal elsewhere, the Mavs would have some room available.
Should they sign Davis Bertans? Here are the pros and cons followed by a look at their chances of landing the current Wizards forward.
