NBA Mock Draft #8: New York Knicks- Isaac Okoro
The Knicks also fell two spots in the lottery simulation. They have options here but should go with the best player available. Okoro gives them a plus-perimeter defender from day one with upside. The Knicks could use a stopper as they finished 23rd in defensive rating this season.
The 6’6 wing is 19 years old. Okoro averaged 12.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 31.5 minutes per game during his lone season at Auburn.
NBA teams will be salivating over his defense. Okoro has the versatility to guard one through four. He may be the top perimeter defender in the 2020 NBA Draft.
His offensive game will determine Okoro’s ceiling. He struggled with his jumper last season hitting just 28.6 percent of his 70 3-point tries. The former Tiger got to the rim and finished well inside allowing him to shot 51.2 percent from the field. There were flashes of passing and playmaking ability too.
Okoro’s defense should earn him minutes immediately. He could become a starter with that alone. Growing into an All-Star or superstar will require improvements on the offensive end of the floor in his scoring, shooting, and playmaking ability. That said, he is worthy of a top ten pick because of his significant upside.
