NBA Mock Draft #31: Dallas Mavericks (via Golden State Warriors)- Daniel Oturu
Let us dive into the Mavs second round selection. With the Warriors not being invited to the NBA’s resumption in Orlando, they will finish with the worst record in the NBA and have the 31st pick. They owe it to the Mavericks from a 2016 trade featuring Andrew Bogut.
The Mavs select Oturu as a big man that can space the floor, rebound, and protect the rim. The 20-year-old played two seasons with Minnesota. As a sophomore, he averaged 20.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while hitting 56.3 percent from the field and 36.5 percent of his threes.
Oturu has potential as a stretch five in the NBA. He lists at 6’10 and 240 pounds. The 20-year-old should be able to slot into a reserve role from day one with the potential to grow into a starter. It would not be surprising to see him taken in round one of the 2020 NBA Draft given his skill set and potential.
Fans will have to wait a few months longer this year, but the 2020 NBA Draft will be a night of hope and intrigue. Expect another unpredictable evening on October 15. Remember, the Dallas Mavericks may decide to trade one or both of their picks on draft night for assets to help them win now. Stay tuned from more coverage leading up to the event.
