NBA Mock Draft #29: Los Angeles Lakers- Aleksej Pokusevski
Pokusevski does not turn 19 years old until December 26. He is already 7’0 and 205 pounds. His slender frame may be a worry, but the Serbian’s talent should make him a first round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Pokusevski played for Olympiacos’ second team this season. It is hard to gauge how his game will translate because of the skill level of the league. Pokusevski is a seven-footer with shooting and ball-handling ability. He also produced strong defensive numbers.
This is strictly an upside selection for whichever team chooses Pokusevski. The skills jump off the page, but he averaged just over 20 minutes per game in Greek second division this season. The 18-year-old will not be ready to play significant NBA minutes as a rookie. He will need time to develop in the G League or take the draft and stash route.
The Lakers take the plunge on his massive upside. Pokusevski could become a stretch four capable of handling the ball and making plays. There is also the possibility that he never plays significant minutes in the NBA. The Lakers can fill their roster with veterans as they contend for a title while keeping Pokusevski in Europe for a few years.
