NBA Mock Draft #24: Utah Jazz- Jalen Smith

Smith had an outstanding sophomore season at Maryland. He averaged 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks in 31.1 minutes per game. Smith hit 53.8 percent from the field, 36.8 percent of his threes, and 75.0 percent from the foul line.

It would not be surprising to see the 20-year-old be selected higher than this in the 2020 NBA Draft. Smith can space the floor and protect the rim. At 6’10, he has the ability to play the four or the five. Smith also finishes well inside and rebounds on both ends of the floor. NBA teams would love to add a player with his skill set.

There are some questions about his shooting. He hit just 26.8 percent from 3-point range as a freshman. Smith stands at 32.3 percent over 158 3-point attempts during his NCAA career. He needs to sure up that part of his game to reach his full potential.

The Jazz have Rudy Gobert locked in at the five. Smith gives them another strong rim protector and rebound. The 20-year-old can space the floor and provides the Jazz with a new wrinkle. They could play Gobert and Smith together or stagger their minutes. Smith has a high ceiling and should be ready to play minutes in the NBA quickly.
