NBA Mock Draft #23: Miami Heat- Devon Dotson

Dotson had a breakout second season at Kansas. He averaged 18.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.1 steals in 34.9 minutes per game. Dotson shot 46.8 percent from the field, 30.9 percent on his 3-point tries, and 83.0 percent from the foul line.

The 20-year-old is a plus ball-handler and creator. He should be able to fill a role as a backup point guard from day one in the NBA. Dotson needs to improve his outside shooting. He hit 33.2 percent over his 214 NCAA 3-point attempts.

Dotson is 6’2 and 185 pounds. He competes hard on the defensive end, but his upside may be limited by his size. Dotson did create a lot of turnovers, though. His quickness will be a plus on both ends of the floor.

The 20-year-old has the upside to be a starting point guard in a few years. Dotson needs to prove he can shoot at a league-average rate from 3-point range and finish inside. His ability as a creator will earn minutes right away. The former Jayhawks guard has to show he can defend lead guards in the NBA too.

The Heat need a backup point guard. Goran Dragic is set to become a free agent, and Miami could draft his replacement in Dotson.
