NBA Mock Draft #22: Philadelphia 76ers (via Thunder)- Tre Jones
Jones spent two seasons as Duke’s starting point guard. He had a breakout sophomore campaign. Jones averaged 16.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.4 assists, and 1.8 steals in 35.4 minutes per game. He shot 42.3 percent from the field, 36.1 percent on his threes, and 77.1 percent from the foul line.
The 20-year-old made significant strides in his playmaking and shooting abilities. He facilitated well and got everyone involved. Jones hit just 26.2 percent from 3-point range as a freshman. There are some questions about which sample is his true outcome. Jones likely is somewhere between the two.
Jones also won ACC Defensive Player of the Year this season. He is 6’3 and 185 pounds. Jones moves his feet well plus brings energy and effort on that end of the floor.
Jones’ best role in the NBA may be as a long-term backup point guard where he comes in and runs the second unit. His brother Tyus Jones has played a similar role during his time in the league.
The Sixers grab Jones here to add to their depth. He provides a change of pace to Ben Simmons and could even play next to him as a spot up shooter.
