NBA Mock Draft #17: Boston Celtics (via Grizzlies)- Theo Maledon

Maledon dealt with a shoulder injury this season that limited his playing time and production. The 19-year-old began his professional career in 2016. He has shown plenty of promise playing for ASVEL even if the minutes are not always consistent.

He is a 6’5 point guard capable of defending multiple positions. Maledon will need time to grow, but he has defensive potential. NBA teams will salivate over his length and ability to switch.

Let us not forget that Maledon was projected to be selected in the top ten at the beginning of the year. The injury and inconsistent minutes hurt is stock, but there remains a strong chance he develops into one of the best players in the 2020 NBA Draft class. The Celtics continue to stockpile assets by grabbing the 19-year-old.

Maledon is a strong shooter and a capable ball handler. He can play on or off the ball. Over the last two seasons combined, Maledon hit 36.1 percent of his 244 3-point attempts playing professionally in France.

Boston grabs a versatile prospect with upside at 17. They do not need another ball-handler, but they take the best player available for a team already contending to win the Eastern Conference with a growing core.
