NBA Mock Draft #11: San Antonio Spurs- Devin Vassell
Vassell played a limited role in his first season at Florida State but broke out in year two. He averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 block in 28.8 minutes per game. Vassell hit 49.0 percent from the field and 41.5 percent of his 3-point tries this season.
The 19-year-old (turns 20 in August) can shoot the lights out. He connected on 41.7 percent of his 168 NCAA 3-point attempts. Vassell showed the ability to shoot off the dribble too. Being able to create your own shot is important for a wing in the NBA.
He also played outstanding defense. Vassell is 6’6 with 6’10 wingspan. He defends well on the perimeter. The former Florida State guard produced outstanding steal and block numbers for a wing too.
NBA teams will be salivating about his 3-and-D potential. Vassell feels like a safe pick. He may not have the upside to be an All-NBA performer, but he should be a solid starter in the league for a decade-plus.
The Spurs could use the floor spacing. They were 28th in 3-point attempts per game this season. Vassell gives them a tremendous shooter and strong defender to build with going forward.
