NBA Mock Draft #10: Phoenix Suns- Tyrese Maxey
The Suns would love to take a point guard in the 2020 NBA Draft to play next to Devin Booker in the backcourt. Tyrese Haliburton represents a fantastic fit. Phoenix misses out on him, though. That put the selection between Maxey and Kira Lewis Jr. Ultimately, Maxey’s potential was too good to pass up.
The 19-year-old is a scoring guard. He hails from Garland, Texas. Maxey helped Team USA win the title at the 2018 FIBA Americas Under-18 championship. He came to Kentucky as one of the top recruits in the country.
Maxey averaged 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 34.5 minutes per game in his lone season with the Wildcats. The shooting and production were a bit inconsistent, though. He hit just 29.2 percent of his 3-point attempts and 42.7 percent from the field.
Improvements need to be made to his jumper and playmaking ability. Maxey would give the Suns another versatile guard that has the potential to blossom into a star.
He is 6’3 with a near 6’8 wingspan. Maxey was the potential to become a plus-defender in the NBA too. It is his strong combination of skills that should see him picked in the lottery on draft night.
