2020 NBA Draft mock 2.0: Who do the Dallas Mavericks select in the first round?
The 2020 NBA Draft will happen, but later than expected. The lottery is set for August 25 with the eight teams not invited to season’s restart in Orlando plus the six that fail to qualify for the postseason. League officials have also set draft night for Oct. 15. That will just days after the NBA Finals wrap up.
The upcoming draft has a lot of uncertainty. Many of the marquee talents played limited games because of injury or suspension. Then, the novel coronavirus wiped out the conference and NCAA tournaments as well as professional leagues across the world. The small sample size that comes with most of these prospects got even smaller.
Another certainty is the Dallas Mavericks will make a first round selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Stepien Rule prohibits them from trading their round pick until after the selection is in. The Mavs could agree to a draft-night deal, but the player will still wear a Dallas hat on stage (if the draft takes place live which is no guarantee). He would not officially be traded until after the moratorium ends.
With that said, let us take our second look at the 2020 NBA Draft class with a mock. The Smoking Cuban’s first one happened back in November. Fans can read it here. Much has changed since then.
NOTE: To set the order, I did a lottery simulation on Tankathon. Each pick will note if they moved up or down in the lottery from the current standings as of March 12 when the hiatus began.
