Dallas Mavericks overall: Willie Cauley-Stein
Cauley-Stein played well during his time with the Mavericks. He showed his ability as a rim protector, rebounder, and roll man. The 26-year-old played limited minutes but proved he can make an impact in every game.
Overall grade for the 2019-2020 season: B-
WCS earned a B-minus grade for his time with the Mavs. The production was strong, but there was not a large enough sample to go beyond a B-minus.
It will be interesting to see how coach Rick Carlisle decides to run the rotation during the NBA’s restart. Kristaps Porzingis shifted to playing more center after Dwight Powell’s season-ending Achilles injury. Assuming that holds, Cauley-Stein and Boban Marjanovic will be battling for the backup center role with Maxi Kleber taking some of the minutes.
Mavs fans should expect Cauley-Stein to play ten to 15 minutes per game in Orlando. They will try to cater to his strengths and maximize his production. The 26-year-old could be a game-changer in the playoffs in specific matchups. That is one of Dallas’ strengths this season.
Keep an eye on Willie Cauley-Stein’s role and production during NBA Disney. Things could fluctuate depending on the matchup, but except Coach Carlisle to attempt to settle the rotation during the eight regular season games remaining. Stay tuned.
